About
Lip Flip

Enhance your lips with the subtle, non-surgical lip flip

The lip flipis a popular, non-invasive procedure designed to enhance the appearance of your lips. Using botulinum toxin, this treatment relaxes the muscles around the lips, allowing the upper lip to "flip" slightly outward. This creates a fuller, more defined look without adding volume, making it an ideal option for those seeking subtle enhancement.

At Smooth Dimensions, our Advanced Aesthetic Nurse, Fiona Mahandru, has extensive experience in administering botulinum toxin for the lip flip treatment. She will carefully assess your goals and deliver a natural-looking result tailored to your unique features.

Treatment FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How long do the results last?

Results generally last 2 – 3 months, as the muscles regain their activity sooner in this area compared to others.

Is the lip flip safe?

Yes, when performed by a qualified professional such as our Advanced Aesthetic Nurse, Fiona Mahandru, the treatment is safe and effective.

What is a lip flip?

A lip flip is a botulinum toxin treatment that relaxes the muscles around the lips, allowing the upper lip to roll outward slightly for a fuller appearance. It's a good alternative to lip filler as it doesn't add volume.

When will I see results?

Results usually become noticeable within 5 – 10 days, with full effects visible at around 2 weeks.

How long does the procedure take?

The treatment typically takes 10-15 minutes, making it a quick and convenient option.

How much does the lip flip cost?

Pricing at Smooth Dimensions for the lip flip can be found above.

Is there any downtime?

There is no downtime, and you can resume daily activities immediately, though strenuous exercise and alcohol should be avoided for 24 hours.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Yes, the Lip Flip can be combined with dermal fillers, skin boosters or other botulinum toxin treatments for enhanced results.

Does the lip flip hurt?

The treatment involves minimal discomfort, often described as a small pinch at the injection site.

Are there side effects?

Side effects are usually mild and temporary, such as slight swelling or redness at the injection site, and typically resolve within a day or two.

What is the difference between a lip flip (using botulinum toxin) and lip filler (using dermal filler)?

Both treatments enhance the appearance of the lips, but they work differently:

  • Lip flip (botulinum toxin): Uses small doses of botulinum toxin around the upper lip to relax the muscles, causing the lip to roll outward slightly. This creates a subtle lift without adding volume, and results typically last 3 – 4 months.
  • Lip filler (dermal filler): Involves injecting a hyaluronic acid-based gel into the lips for noticeable volume, shape, and definition. The effect is more pronounced and can last from 6 – 12 months, depending on the product used and individual factors.

Is there anything I need to do before my treatment?

To minimise bruising, swelling, and complications, avoid the following before your appointment:

7 days before treatment:

  • Ibuprofen, naproxen, and other NSAIDs.
  • Alcohol – increases the risk of bruising and swelling.
  • Omega-3 & vitamin E  – can thin the blood and increase bruising.
  • Herbal supplements, especially Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, and Ginseng – increases the risk of bruising.

24 to 48 hours before treatment:

  • Caffeine – can increase sensitivity and bruising risk.
  • Intense exercise – can increase blood flow and worsen swelling or bruising.

On the day of treatment:

  • Arrive makeup-free if possible.
  • Stay hydrated and eat a light meal to prevent feeling lightheaded.
  • Avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine.

If you are prone to bruising, Arnica supplements may help when taken a few days before treatment.
