Treatment FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Are there side effects?

Mild side effects such as redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site are common but typically resolve within a few days.

Can lip fillers be combined with other treatments?

Yes, lip fillers can be combined with treatments such as cheek fillers or Botox® for comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

Does the treatment hurt?

Most patients experience minimal discomfort. Numbing cream is applied before the procedure to ensure comfort.

How long do the results last?

Results typically last 6 – 12 months, depending on the type of filler used and individual factors such as metabolism.

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment typically takes 30 – 45 minutes.

How much does the treatment cost?

Pricing at Smooth Dimensions varies depending on the amount of filler required. Pricing guidelines can be found above.

Is the treatment safe?

Yes, dermal fillers are safe when administered by a qualified professional such as our Advanced Aesthetic Nurse, Fiona Mahandru. You can find out more about Fiona and her qualifications here.

Is there any downtime?

There is little to no downtime. Most patients resume normal activities immediately, although it's advised to avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours. You may experience some swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection sites, which typically subside within a few days.

Is there anything I need to do before my treatment?

To minimise bruising, swelling, and complications, avoid the following before your appointment:

7 days before treatment:

  • Ibuprofen, naproxen, and other NSAIDs.
  • Alcohol – increases the risk of bruising and swelling.
  • Omega-3 & vitamin E  – can thin the blood and increase bruising.
  • Herbal supplements, especially Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, and Ginseng – increases the risk of bruising.

24 to 48 hours before treatment:

  • Caffeine – can increase sensitivity and bruising risk.
  • Intense exercise – can increase blood flow and worsen swelling or bruising.

On the day of treatment:

  • Arrive makeup-free if possible.
  • Stay hydrated and eat a light meal to prevent feeling lightheaded.
  • Avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine.

If you are prone to bruising, Arnica supplements may help when taken a few days before treatment.

What are lip fillers?

Lip fillers are injectable treatments made of hyaluronic acid that enhance lip volume, shape, and symmetry.

What is the difference between a lip flip (using Botox®) and lip filler (using dermal filler)?

Both treatments enhance the appearance of the lips, but they work differently:

  • Lip flip (Botox®): Uses small doses of Botox® around the upper lip to relax the muscles, causing the lip to roll outward slightly. This creates a subtle lift without adding volume, and results typically last 3 – 4 months.
  • Lip filler (dermal filler): Involves injecting a hyaluronic acid-based gel into the lips for noticeable volume, shape, and definition. The effect is more pronounced and can last from 6 – 12 months, depending on the product used and individual factors.

When will I see results?

Results are visible immediately after the procedure, with optimal results appearing as swelling subsides within a few days.
