Introduction

Microneedling in Essex

SkinPen is a medical-grade, evidence-based microneedling treatment that supports natural skin regeneration by creating controlled microchannels that activate the skin’s own renewal response.

Treatment Overview

What Is SkinPen Microneedling?

SkinPen is a professional medical-grade microneedling device that uses fine, sterile needles to create thousands of controlled microchannels in the skin. These controlled micro-injuries stimulate the skin’s natural healing response which stimulates new collagen .

Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy because it encourages the production of new collagen which is an important structural protein that supports smoother and healthier-looking skin.

How it works

How Does Microneedling Support Natural Skin Regeneration?

The skin responds to each controlled microchannel by beginning a repair and remodelling process. New collagen develops gradually, helping to strengthen the skin and improve its appearance over time.

SkinPen does not rely on heat or injectable ingredients to create this response. Instead, it works with the skin’s natural regenerative processes. Improvements are therefore progressive rather than instant and may continue developing for several months.

The suitability of microneedling will depend on the type, age and location of the scar, stretch mark or pigmentation being treated. Your practitioner will assess the concern before recommending treatment.

What Can SkinPen Help Improve?

Depending on your skin and treatment plan, SkinPen microneedling may help improve:

Overall skin quality and radiance

Dull or tired-looking skin

Fine lines

Uneven pigmentation or skin tone

Uneven or rough skin texture

Enlarged-looking pores

Consultation

Your Microneedling Consultation

A consultation is required before treatment so your practitioner can assess your skin, discuss your concerns and confirm whether microneedling is suitable for you.

We will look at your skin type, medical history, current skincare routine and the areas you would like to improve, such as texture, fine lines, acne scarring, pores or overall skin quality. Your recommended treatment areas, course length, expected downtime and pricing will be confirmed during your consultation.

The Treatment Process

What happens during treatment?

Your skin will be assessed and cleansed before treatment. The SkinPen device is then passed systematically across the selected area at a depth chosen for your skin, treatment area and goals.

Patients who would like to numb the area before treatment can purchase EMLA cream. Following facial treatment, a soothing face sheet mask can be applied at the clinic or provided for you to apply at home. You will also receive an aftercare pack containing the products and information needed to care for your skin after treatment.

1

We discuss your skin concerns, review your medical history and assess the treatment area.

2

We agree the areas to treat, recommended course and take photos for your treatment record.

3

The skin is cleansed and a microneedling device is passed across the treatment area to create controlled micro-channels.

4

You’ll receive personalised aftercare guidance before leaving the clinic.

When will I see results?

Your skin may look red and feel warm, tight, sensitive or dry after SkinPen microneedling. These effects can resemble mild sunburn and may last for up to three days.

Results develop as natural skin regeneration and collagen production progress. Some patients notice a fresher appearance as the skin settles, while improvements in scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, pigmentation and texture take longer to develop. A series of treatments may be recommended depending on your skin concern and the results you would like to achieve.

Faqs

Microneedling FAQs

Have questions before booking? Here are the most common things patients ask about consultations, pricing, results, downtime and suitability.

Microneedling describes the treatment method. SkinPen is the medical-grade microneedling device used at Smooth Dimensions to create controlled microchannels and stimulate natural collagen production.

An introductory SkinPen treatment for new clients costs £150. A standard single treatment costs £200. Both appointments last approximately 45 minutes and include an aftercare pack and face sheet mask.

The number depends on your skin, concern and goals. A one-off treatment may provide a skin refresh, while concerns such as acne scarring, surgical scars, stretch marks or pigmentation may require a series of sessions.

Results develop gradually. The skin may look fresher once the initial redness settles, but collagen remodelling and improvements in texture, scars, stretch marks, pigmentation or wrinkles take place over the following weeks and months.

Redness, warmth, sensitivity, tightness or dryness may last for one to three days. Downtime varies according to your skin and the intensity of treatment.

You will receive a post-treatment aftercare pack and personalised instructions from your practitioner. A soothing face sheet mask can be applied immediately after facial treatment or taken home to use later. You may also be advised to avoid sun exposure, heat, strenuous exercise, makeup and active skincare ingredients for a short period.

No. Suitability depends on your skin, medical history and goals rather than being 40 or any other specific age.

It may be worthwhile for suitable patients who want progressive improvements through natural skin regeneration. Results are not instant, and the value of treatment depends on your concern, expectations and recommended treatment plan.
